Leoni presents cable technologies at "The Battery Show Europe"

Roth, 28 May 2025 – Leoni, a global provider of energy and data management solutions in the automotive sector, will showcase innovative technologies for electromobility at "The Battery Show Europe" from June 3 to 5 in Stuttgart, Germany. In Hall 8, Stand E90, the company will illustrate the wide variety of its internationally approved cables as well as solutions for, among other things, fast charging technology, power supply with high-voltage cables and the next magnet wire-generation - “LEONI exMW”.

For electromobility, Leoni develops and produces cables worldwide covering the entire charging system: charging cables from the charging station to the vehicle - and also liquid-cooled for fast charging (HPC - High Power Charging cables), versions for the luggage compartment as well as high-voltage charging cables leading from the charging port to the battery. Leoni’s Hivocar high-voltage cables are powerful also when it comes to wiring the numerous components and the power train of electric vehicles.

Several factors interact while charging: the electric power of the charging port, the charging technology fitted in the vehicle and the size of the vehicle’s battery. Charging times have been cut from several hours to a few minutes by technological advancements. However, cables with a reduced diameter that makes them easy to handle at the charging station would seriously overheat without active cooling. Leoni has developed a special HPC cable for liquid-cooled charging systems so that the temperatures in the cable and on the connector do not exceed a set limit. 

After the successful launch at the International Suppliers Fair in October last year and the Coiltech in the beginning of 2025, Leoni will present its new development in Stuttgart to the visitors.

In order to adapt the electrical supply in the vehicle to the increased requirements, Leoni also further developed the conventional high-voltage cable. LEONI Hivocar® Cool is a state-of-the-art solution that has been specially developed for the requirements of electromobility. These liquid-cooled high-voltage cables provide a significantly higher current carrying capacity compared to uncooled standard HV cables with the same temperature rise. The portfolio ranges from 16 to 150 mm², whereby the diameter can be reduced by up to 30 % and the weight by up to 75 % compared to an HV cable with a comparable current carrying capacity. 

LEONI exMW is a new, innovative generation of winding wires manufactured by extrusion. These wires, made of copper or aluminum, are characterized by excellent electrical properties, high dielectric strength, and outstanding mechanical strength. Extrusion allows for a uniform insulation layer without the use of varnish or additional intermediate layers. This results in high production speed and precise control of dimensions and the insulation layer, ensuring excellent product quality. 

In total, LEONI‘s extruded magnet wires offer significant advantages over previous solutions and are indispensable for the development of efficient, durable, and environmentally friendly drive motors in the automotive industry.
